You are greatly impressed by individuality and have interest in people who have outstanding qualities. You try to imitate those people that you admire and their characteristics, hoping that you will be able to display similar qualities in your own personality.

Any more than two weeks and it could have gotten boring. I finally learned this after too many long trips to the dreaded central valley suburbs.

Before I returned to the West Coast I made a quick detour to DC. I know it doesn’t translate well in the photo, but at the time this apple blossom and vanilla ice cream totally looked like George Washington.

[Note] Rene made this for me as well as a tasty chicken and rice dinner.

Sweet bridge somewhere in Delaware? Maybe Maryland? I don’t know my East Coast geography very well. All I know is that everything is small and really close together.

Just after returning to NY it was time to pack and head over to SF via LA. The layover in LA was supposed to be short, but thanks to the magic of California and the San Andreas fault my connecting flight to SF was delayed. Strangely enough, I guess since I had just been on a partially-turbulent flight for 5+ hours, I wasn’t really aware that the ground wiggling was an unusual thing. The first official time I had ever felt an earthquake and I didn’t even think anything of it.

First day hanging out with mom and sis, and where do we go? Ikea of course! We brought Banana’s bf Jesse with us too.

Day trip to SF with Naomi, mom, and Banana. En route we stumbled upon a stranded Manny at the train station so we brought him along with us. Peeped the Frida Kahlo exhibit at SFMoMA, pretty sweet. Made me love her even more. <3

This was clearly the most memorable anti-drug campaign of my youth. And I was even guilty of basing one of my elementary anti-drug posters on it. When was anti-drug month? Or was it always anti-drug month? I think in elementary school we had “Red Ribbon Week.” And as kindergarteners we tied red, plastic “ribbons” on the chain-link fence facing the street into giant anti-drug slogans. Even now when I pass the school, it reminds me to “Just Say No.”

However, I still like fried eggs.

And lucky for me, Rene made us some tasty eggs when he visited a few weeks ago.

He came up to NY again this past weekend. This time he made me soup. Too bad soup makes negative sense on a hot summer day.

I should be heading down to DC this weekend, we’ll see if he cooks for me again.

On another fail note.
I know I kind of fail at blogging. But I’m going to try to keep it up a little more. Just be patient. I promise it’ll be worth it.

I recently went to see the current photography exhibit. Unfortunately it was kind of lame. So I decided to wander around the museum.

Escalator to nowhere… except maybe a pile of boxes

I heard drumming around noon today. At first I thought it was random people in the street or something, but it sounded too much like marching drums. I spent too much time in high school in a marching band to not recognize the regularity of a march cadence. Turns out it was the “Juneteenth King Fest Parade.” I may have missed a word in that title, I can’t quite remember. Anyway, I had a good view of the short parade from my living room window.

It started out such a bright sunny day.  Now the sky is a cold steel blue and only getting darker.  That is except for the occasional bright flash of lightning.  It’s been a long time since I’ve heard such booming thunder.  It actually scared me quite a bit earlier.  Probably also because it was totally quite in the apartment at the time.  The rain has been start and stop all afternoon, with occasional downpours.  The beginning of the last rain was so loud it rivaled the thunder.  Shortly thereafter I could hear a voice in the street, I had gone to the living room to check out the rain better.

Louder than even the rain and thunder was a young female voice screaming “my hair! my hair!”
